My September 2010 online earnings disclosed

About a month ago when I disclosed and went into detail about my August 2010 online earnings, I said I’d probably write about my September 2010 online earnings too, so here I am to do just that.

Did I make more in September?

Well, my August total was R580.21 (about $83), and my total for September is R616.56 (about $89) so I guess it may not seem like much more, but I see it as considerably more for September than August due to the fact that I was lucky in August to get a Fortitude referral which generated R86.43. If I don’t count referrals (since I don’t work too hard at trying to get referrals) then my August online earnings would have been R493.78, meaning my R616.56 for September was R122.78 better than August, and not just R36.35 better.

In fact, I think I should keep my earnings from the articles (or my web page or my blog content) that I write separate from earnings generated from referrals, because it’s making money from article writing that I’m actually promoting (and trying to show others that they can do this too, if they’re looking at making some extra income online, from home.)

A reminder that making money from writing articles and submitting them to various sites is not the only way that I make money from home. Tony and I also do freelance work via oDesk, and from home, locally – work related to web design, WordPress blog hosting, writing articles, web content writing, a bit of photography and photo editing, Internet research, SEO and more.

The idea, down the line, though, is to find more time to write more articles and earn more from them as I have started doing recently. I also like the idea that I can write an article just once, and then make money from it in different ways – then write a new article the next time I want to earn money from just one article (and the previous articles already written keep bringing in some small earnings – but small earnings from lots of articles each working for me in more than just one or two ways, can add up, and can eventually earn me a substantial income.)

Right, a breakdown on the differences between August and September earnings:

1) August Adsense earnings R366 September Adsense earnings R426.72

This is R422.12 from my own sites and blogs,
R4.17 from HubPages,
R0.00 from Xomba, She Told Me, Tipdrop, Snipsly, You Say Too, and
R0.43 from Triond

Of the R422.12 from my own sites and blogs, just R1.36 came from 3 Blogger blogs Tony and I have. I could spend more time promoting these Blogger blogs, but it’s easier and quicker to just write for our websites and WordPress blogs, which seem to automatically get much more traffic than our Blogger blogs do.

Although R17.26 of the R422.12 came from two particular WordPress blogs we had, we didn’t have much content on them, or the time to add more content quite quickly, so at the end of September we scrapped those two WordPress blogs (to save on the monthly hosting costs and yearly domain registration renewal fees) – but of course have kept the content we did have on them, to add to our other sites or blogs, which we’ll probably get done this month.

What did I do in September?
Rearranged a few of the Adsense ads on my own sites and blogs and added just 4 new articles/posts/pages.
Added one new article to HubPages.

In other words I did not have to do much to generate earnings from my own sites and blogs – the work was already previously done when I added new pages to the sites or blogs even as far back as a year ago. I could have added nothing new and still generated earnings of probably at least R350.

2) August Constant Content earnings R79 September Constant Content earnings R79

I have less than ten articles on Constant Content, for sale with usage rights only. The above amount is the same amount as for August as it was the exact same article that sold again in September :) (Another example of an article continuing to make me money.)

3) August Helium earnings R0.00 (I had not yet joined Helium) September Helium earnings R73.41

This was R14.62 from ad revenue share (earned by merely getting page views of my articles) and the other R58.79 I was very lucky to get. It was for empty title bonuses and upfront payments. But I had to have at least one of five possible writing stars to get this R58.79 at the end of the month. My articles must be scored in the top 25% of articles I submit to titles on Helium for me to get a Helium writing star, and I must have at least 4 articles on Helium. I say I was lucky, as the day after the scores were calculated, my writing score dropped off to just under 75% and I would not have received these extra earnings had the score calculations been done on that day, instead of the day before.

I’m aiming at getting my writing stars up to two stars by the end of October (at least 30 articles on Helium, and a writing score of at least 75%), as then I can earn more from upfronts (being one of the first 5 to submit an article to a title.) I joined Helium on 11 September, so I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished in a short while. I have 24 articles on Helium, and will have more than 30 there by the end of October.

If I don’t earn from empty title bonuses or upfronts, I can still earn from the Helium ad revenue share (the R14.62) (as long as I have at least one rating star – which is easy to get and keep.)

Some of the articles I have on Helium are also published elsewhere eg on Factoidz, Constant Content, and on my own sites or blogs – so, yet another example of just one article earning me an income in a variety of different ways, and which can continue earning me a small Helium ad revenue share the more they are viewed.

4) August Factoidz earnings R30.38 September Factoidz earnings R34.

I’m a little depressed about the Factoidz earnings in September, as expected the earnings to be quite a bit more than they were in August. Why? At the start of August I had just 2 articles that I had added in the last week of July. In August I added 6 new articles, and was happy with my earnings from them at the end of August. In September I added 10 new articles, so expected the earnings to be a little higher for September than they were. But, still, not too bad, since I can republish those articles elsewhere after 30 days, and earn more from them, while still continuing to earn a bit from them on Factoidz too!

5) August Fortitude earnings R97.43 September Fortitude earnings R1.50

Fortitude is taking half a month’s break to revamp their site. This sounds good, and I look forward to seeing new developments when they’re done. Ignoring the R86.43 I made from a Fortitude referral in August, August earnings were just R11. I’m not upset with the R1.50 earnings for September, as could have earned even more than R11 just by reading and rating a few more articles on the site in September. I rated very very few in September.

6) August RedGage earnings R6. September RedGage earnings R1.

I think I added just 4 or 5 new bookmarks to RedGage in September, so can’t be upset at these low earnings. I wasn’t very active on RedGage at all during September. Although the earnings may seem pathetic, bear in mind that I get some traffic to my articles elsewhere, from my links on RedGage. Getting traffic to my articles, wherever they are, can earn me money, either from pageviews (people just reading the article/visiting the page,) or from clicks on Adsense ads.

7) August Triond earnings R1.30 September Triond earnings R0.83

I guess this sounds like a waste of time, but hear me out! I think I have less than 15 articles on Triond, and haven’t added any new articles in over two months I think (so where’s the waste of time, if I’ve done nothing there in two months?). So, there’s articles sitting there, not requiring any more work from me, and they’re slowly earning me a little passive income, just from people reading them. I can also republish these articles elsewhere, where they can also earn.

Do not put your previously published articles on Factoidz or Triond. They accept only fresh articles, not previously published. You can, however, republish them elsewhere, later, to places that do accept previously published articles eg your own sites or blogs, Helium, or Constant Content (Constant Content with usage rights only.)

8 ) August She Told Me earnings R0.00 September She Told Me earnings R0.00

I still haven’t figured out what to do within my Google Adsense account to get my Adsense impressions from She Told Me, but, for now, am continuing to use She Told Me, as my articles elsewhere do get a bit of traffic from my She Told Me bookmarks – and “elsewhere” my articles do earn me some income.

9) August You Say Too earnings R0.00 September You Say Too earnings R0.00

The You Say Too site is too slow for me to bother with, but I have not yet gotten around to disabling my account there.

10) August Tipdrop earnings R0.00 September Tipdrop earnings R0.00

Again, perhaps there is some earning potential at Tipdrop, but I have not spent much time on it yet – and no time in September.

11) August Snipsly earnings R0.00 (had not yet joined Snipsly) September Snipsly earnings R0.00

I’ve spent very very little time on Snipsly so far, so am not yet ready to disable my account there – I will decide after I have found the time to give Snipsly a little more attention.

12) August and September earnings from Clickbank, Offerforge, and Amazon R0.00

Again, just like in August, I have not spent time in September promoting any Clickbank, Offerforge, or Amazon products.

Now, had I done absolutely nothing in September regards trying to earn from my articles online, would I still have earned anything in September from what I had previously done (done in August or prior to August)?

Yes! (see beneath each way of making money online above, where I explain this for each area.) It is obvious, though, that the more I do, and the more I write, and the more places I add my articles to, and the more I spend time promoting/marketing/linking back to the various articles, the more I can earn :)
