Make and sell custom chess sets for extra income

At some time or another everybody has at least tried to play chess. For some it remains a life long involvement, and for others, it is merely a pastime. Very few people totally escape the magic and allure of chess.

Most people who play chess have chess sets, but these are generally plastic, with cardboard boards, and as such have no place of importance, and it often becomes a chore to have a quick game. If you are skilled in one or more crafts, you will be able to make chess sets for resale.

Wooden or stone chess sets with the traditional figures are no longer all that is considered a valid chess set, and no matter what your material of choice, or your preferred style, you are able to make and sell chess sets.

If you’re a skilled metal worker, how about a stainless steel and bronze chess set? If you’re an impressionist woodworker, create special edition sets. Potters can also make chess sets, as can seamstresses. Have you considered a chess set made of seashells?

Of course you would need to make a board for your custom chess set, as well as a storage facility in which to keep the set and the board for moving them around. Hopefully the only moving will be between you, the buyer, and the recipient. Hopefully the recipient will proudly display, and use your chess set. In view of that possibility, put your name on the set, or include a card, with your name, somewhere in the packaging.

As with any home based business, be aware that you will not get rich overnight. In fact it may often seem that you are working for nothing. Perseverance and quality need to be your keywords, as these are what will bring success.
