What does our web address 1pic4twenty.co.za mean?

Go to our main website homepage here. (you can email us from that page too) 1pic4twenty was, at first, the name we gave our first idea of a business – which related to somebody sending a digital photograph to us, and us sending 20 of the same photograph back – but different, as in various different forms of the same photograph eg in black and white, sepia, with a “frame”, red-eye removed, or applying photoshop filters that would mean the photo would appear as an oil pastel, or watercolour, or have a posterised effect. Also cropping so that more than one photo could be made from the same image, altering the colour tone, and basically doing fun things with one image. These new photographs could then be emailed … Read entire article »

We’re currently no.1 on Google.co.za for web design!

Four days ago, (15 August 2009), we decided to check how we were doing on Google.co.za for the search phrase “web design.” And there we were, at no.3! We checked again the next day and we’d moved up to no.1! Out of over 300 million results! We’re not sure when last we checked, probably at least a month ago, when we weren’t even on the first ten pages. A month ago or so, we were there for other search terms, on page one, but longer ones such as “web design photography writing” – or see which others too, on our blog post Reasons why leaving a comment on our blog might be good for you, but not just for two words being two words we’ve been striving to be found for! We’re really pleased! But also … Read entire article »

When looking for cheap website design, how cheap is cheap?

Cheap website design is what we do, and we are doing it to build a portfolio so that we can easily get more clients down the line. It’s not easy. It’s hard work, and we supplement our income in many other ways too, in particular with photography for web design clients – mostly photography for the accommodation establishments in and around East London, and writing work too, locally, and Internationally via oDesk. Although we are charging pathetically low fees for web design, we do our best for our clients. What’s the point of building a useless portfolio for new clients to refer back to, and how will we ever be able to put our prices up (in March 2010) if potential web design clients aren’t happy when seeing our previous clients’ … Read entire article »

How long do we take to design your website?

Of the 20 websites we have designed since February 2008 to now (July 2009) , only two of them took as little as 9 days from beginning to end – beginning being first consultation with the web design client, and end being uploaded and available for viewing by the world. There are only two of us, myself, owner of the web design, photography, and writing business, in East London, South Africa, and Tony who helps me. All the websites we have designed for other clients have taken longer than 9 days, some as long as 5 to 6 weeks. This is not usually our fault, and we find that clients don’t mind if it takes a bit long to finish a design, when they understand we get to certain points in the … Read entire article »

East London Tourist Shambles?

On 20 March 2008, a local freebie newspaper, the “Go! & Express”, featured a front page article screaming about the shambles East London tourism is in. Needless to say I had to throw in my 5c worth, and my response was duly published, with a few alterations. My letter (as published): “Late last year we identified a gap in the tourism market, and proceeded to pursue it. We are involved in web design and photography, and work from home. As frustrated as Niki Moore was at getting no info, and as frustrated as you must have been at trying to get a response from BCM’s Ondela Mahlangu, we are equally frustrated at getting no response from numerous e-mails and flyers. What is terribly frustrating, and disturbing, is the number of e-mails being returned marked “recipient unknown”, … Read entire article »

How we work

Lol! This is a March 2008 post taken from our old blog, ( deleted the post now, but we are going to revive the old blog )when I’d barely started my web design business, and we never ended up working exactly like this. Instead, we went with the flow, and developed a nice little routine, that we usually follow, when getting a new web design client. See out current routine here: Rough Idea of the Email Info we Send “We utilize six stages in our website design process. Stage 1: First Consultation. Following our initial discussion regarding your web requirements, be it personal, by e-mail or telephone, we prepare a free proposal document detailing your requirements, and our proposal. At this stage we also present any additional ideas and advice, together with the costs, … Read entire article »

Is your friend a ‘Good Guy’?

We all have memories of our childhood, some great memories of fun and play, some good memories that are a little vague, but have nevertheless stayed with us, and then we have those not so cool memories. These include getting into trouble at home or school, for any of a variety of reasons. Surely, somewhere along the line we all had a friend our parents did not approve of, yet we would persist in hanging out with them. The sad part is that often our parents were right about the friend, and we would go to school to hear that so-and-so had been caught driving drunk, selling drugs, or caught shop-lifting. Sometimes, our parents had the person all wrong, and years down the line, when looking at the progress their children … Read entire article »
