How to Gain Credibility as an Online Freelance Writer
Part of my income comes from writing, so I must have at least some credibility as a writer, and these are my tips to help you become a credible writer too:
I wouldn’t say I’m an expert, as have not been earning an income from my writing efforts for all that long, but some call me modest, so who knows? I did manage to get my first writing job within two weeks of applying for various freelance projects on oDesk.
I do hope to think of myself as an expert writer one day, and in my efforts to get to that level of expertise, I have done, and do, the following:
The first article I submitted to EzineArticles, entitled How to get your First Online Freelance Job more Easily was accepted, and when I have time to write more articles for EzineArticles, I may consider it, as having articles accepted by EzineArticles is a criteria some people look for when hiring a writer – although I prefer to write articles for my own blog, than for article directories.
I’m obsessive about detail, spending ages on checking that my writing is as good as I can manage.
I do the tests on oDesk, where I work as a freelancer, so that I can display the results on my oDesk profile, or anywhere else on the Internet that I’m allowed to.
I received the above Top Writer badge at the end of September 2009 for being one of the best 25 freelance writers on oDesk in September.
Also, when working with oDesk clients, or with anyone else, I never rush through my work, and always deliver the best possible work I can, as this means I receive great testimonials and comments from the people who have hired me on oDesk, which, like test results, are also displayed on my oDesk profile for other potential oDesk buyers to see when they are looking for a writer to hire for their latest project.
When hired to write spin ready articles, I do them manually, to make sure the articles read correctly with the different words or phrases I have inserted, as so many spun articles out there just don’t read correctly and look awful.
If not hired to write spin ready articles, I don’t write or submit spin ready articles – I prefer to write articles that are completely different from others.
When asked to write on a subject I don’t know much about, I do thorough research first.
I submit unique work, even when sourcing my information from other websites or online articles, I never use the same words or terms or even the same general theme, as don’t want my clients to have any duplicate content or copyright problems.
I get my web design clients’ websites into the best position I can whereby they can be quite easily found by search engines, by:
Using correct grammar in the web content I write for the web design clients, or editing the content they provide, if needed;
Not stuffing in too many keywords that could get their site blacklisted from being indexed by search engines;
Trying to include enough relevant keywords, or synonyms;
Trying to include the most relevant words near the top of the page, and also include these in the meta description in the coding.
I hope that what I do to gain credibility as a writer can help you to do the same. Good luck, and keep on writing!

Congratulations on your oDesk Top Writer Badge – you truly deserve it!
Although I can also become quite obsessive, it is more the information that drives me and often spelling and grammar oopsies enter the fray. When starting a blog for my driving school it was the content that I felt compelled to share and since there’s a writing mistake here and there I gathered that readers would feel more comfortable knowing that I am not coming from a “Miss Perfect” point of view.
Since the Instant Article Wizard sounds like such a treasure piece of software I’ll undoubtedly be making use of it on my Whole Brain Practitioner blog too.
Although my content is unique, perhaps I’ll attract decent comment exchange, reality of which I’m yet to see on my blogs.
Keep up the good work and let your pen’s ink never dry up!

How sad is Massachusetts?
I stumble onto a number of pieces of info and keep a lookout for things that might interest bloggers that I fancy, like you guys.
Now get this – Massachusetts is looking at implementing a law that will directly impact freelance writers and even put some of them out of work!
Some freelancers have started a petition and I sincerely hope they can bring their government around to their point of view.
Hope this law isn’t affecting too many people at oDesk?
Please help spread the word!
