Don’t spend forever trying to find work. Just work.

How long have you been searching for that perfect get rich quick scheme? If you’ve found it, and it’s really working for you, well done, but I suspect there are millions out there who haven’t found it and never will.

Why don’t you just work? You don’t have to give up the Internet if that’s what you love doing all day. There are thousands, maybe more, of online work from home opportunities that you can do.

Sounds like work, doesn’t it – searching for online work from home opportunities or ideas that you can do or use to make money, without having to get dressed to go to the office everyday? Well, it is. Work is what makes you money. It doesn’t just fall into your lap. If it does, it may be because people are feeling sorry for you and giving it to you, but for how long will they keep giving you money if they see you’re not making much effort to earn your own money, or if they see you keep trying get rich quick schemes that don’t work?

For the life of me, I can’t figure out how to leave a comment on
this blog where there’s a great post entitled Free Writing Courses To Help You Be a Better Writer

I have tried commenting as a guest and also after first logging into twitter as this is one of the choices, but every time I hit submit the loading of the comment takes forever and then just times out. I know I had a bad connection the other day I tried about 4 times, but my connection is fine today and I tried three more times with no luck, so I have posted here what my response there would have been – to the interesting post mentioned above, so do check it out.

Here’s the comment I would have left had I been able to:

“The “as long as you are willing to spend time to learn” is an excellent point.

So many people are struggling to find work, but I believe that if somebody can write even a half-decent letter, they can earn money as a freelance writer online on the Internet. There are so many freelance writing jobs available all the time, every day.

These jobs, however, are easier to get if you improve your writing skills, and with so many free writing courses out there, as referenced in your post, what’s the problem? Millions of people can learn, improve, work hard, and earn some money.”

That was my comment, now back to this post:

When browsing through websites on the Internet, you don’t only have to keep an eye open for freelance writing opportunities, freelance web design opportunities, or any other freelance work you might be able to do, but also keep your eye open for freelance job sites that offer a variety of job opportunties all in one place. Then don’t just dive right in. Study the site first, look at other profiles and see how other people are marketing themselves on the site. I do freelance work for oDesk and am very happy there, but I worked really hard at my oDesk profile before applying for my first job, and did lots of the interesting multiple choice tests so I could display the results on my profile. Then I applied for many jobs for two weeks, before I got my first one. It has been easier since. Not very long after getting that first job, I wrote this article, which is published on Ezine Articles, to help others get their first freelance online job more easily. The tips in the article are pretty much a description of what I did, and do, which worked, and works, for me on oDesk.

See some of the oDesk jobs that are available right now on the right hand side of this blog.

Online work is also not the only type of work you can do working from home. Keep your eyes open for articles, free or cheap ebooks,
or lists of work from home ideas that spark your imagination and make you realise there really is a lot you are able to do to earn money at home. Jot down or type up your own list of what interests you, choosing your favourites from the ideas you get in the ebooks, articles, or lists, but be careful not to get sucked into always just searching for new ideas, and never actually sitting down – or standing up – and beginning work!

Also don’t take forever to start that list. Some photographers are never without their digital camera and take many photographs wherever they go, sifting through them later to choose the best ones. Some writers carry a notepad and pen or pencil with them, and jot down random thoughts that occur to them, right away, and refer back to them later to help them start writing an article, story, or ebook. Now take your own notepad, pen and pencil around with you and jot down work from home ideas that occur to you wherever you go, whether it be during conversation with a friend, while surfing the Internet, when browsing through magazines, or even just walking or driving around town or the countryside and seeing something that makes you think “Now there’s something I can make or do.”

Once you have a decent size list, that hopefully takes you less than a month to compile, sift through the different ideas and decide what you would most like to do, and also take into account the ones that cost nothing, or very little to begin, even if you don’t think you will really enjoy them. Making a bit of money from them can be put towards what you would like to do later.

Advertise your business wherever you can, whenever you can. Don’t panic about how expensive good advertising might turn out to be, as there are many free or really cheap methods of advertising that really do work if you just put a little effort in. You can worry about more expensive methods of advertising later, like getting professional brochures designed, printed and distributed, or having a website designed, but, by then, you may not even need these more expensive methods of advertising, or, you will have earned the money to afford them.
