Johnny Depp is a Versatile Actor
Johnny Depp is a famous actor and was born on the 9th of June in 1963. We all know Johnny Depp from his role as Captain Jack Sparrow from the three Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Although Johnny Depp starred in quite a few movies before the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, The Curse of the Black Pearl, it wasn’t until these Pirates movies that he became really famous. Savvy? Johnny Depp is a respected and admired actor, but was not always “a good guy.” He dropped out of school when he was 15, hoping to become a rock star; he took drugs, vandalized property, and was pretty much a big rebel. Luckily while working as a salesman and visiting Los Angeles, his former wife, Lori Anne Allison introduced him to … Read entire article »

The importance of using good grammar in comments
Why is it important to try use at least fairly good grammar when making comments on blog posts? Exposure exposure exposure! It is not at all selfish to try and get some exposure for yourself when leaving comments on the blog posts of other people. If you leave a decent comment for another person, and especially if that comment is fairly lengthy, you are not only helping that person (who wrote the blog post) gain more exposure, but are gaining more exposure yourself too. Your profile link is displayed, or a link to your own website or blog. How many words – or particular words – you use in the actual comment, or how you say what you want … Read entire article »
Free advertising for East London and South Africa
Shopping for free advertising? We are now offering free advertising on two of our blogs – East London in SA, and School and Stuff. Both these blogs are fairly new, but are sure to grow just like our other older sites and blogs have, and the advertising we offer is generous, and FREE! Our main 1pic4twenty blog, according to the South African blog aggregator myScoop is already receiving over 2000 page views per week – this is real visitors viewing the pages – the figure is considerably larger if including Search Engine robots. Be careful when paying for advertising on some sites that the amount of page views they say they are getting does not include Search … Read entire article »
Doesn’t it make you sick when poor content articles are easily found?
To write good content that may not be easily found, but is helpful to viewers, or write a load of rubbish (or steal somebody elses’ article and spin it dizzy and end up with the biggest bit of trash) but get found easily? Oh, and of course offer Google Adsense ads for people to click on (on the rubbish article pages), so that people can maybe find the info that WILL be of help, and will be written with proper grammar. The sad thing about providing good content for viewers, when using Google Adsense as a method to try earn a bit of extra income, is that those ads are hardly ever clicked, because the viewer has found … Read entire article »
What to do when your computer screen goes all funny
While I was trying to get in an hour or two’s extra sleep this morning due to having an awful night because of a painful lower back and hip area, Basti came through to our little home office to chat with Tony, and to mess up my computer screen while he was playing some old game he found on my computer. I heard about it afterwards, of course, when all was repaired. I would have spun had I come through before they had sorted it, so I’m glad the drama was all over already when I came through. Why would I have spun? I’m using Tony’s pc monitor as mine recently packed up completely, and Tony is … Read entire article »
Hogsback church Saint Patrick on the Hill burns to the ground!
The beautiful and charming little chapel Saint Patrick on the Hill in Hogsback has burnt to the ground! This is sad news for Hogsback and all the visitors to Hogsback who so love to vist the quaint little church with its stone walls. Many a couple has said their marriage vows inside the stone walls of Saint Patrick on the Hill, and won’t be happy to hear that it has burnt down. Tony, myself and the boys enjoyed a day trip to Hogsback in January 2009, and you can see some pictures of the church on the article we wrote about our trip. As we say in the article, one cannot come away from Hogsback … Read entire article »

One of our existing clients Lovedogs is using the free 3 page web design special is a clever way. My list of things to do
This blog post is probably really boring for anyone else to read, but, tough, writing lists helps me get more organized, and if I can get myself a blog post out of it at the same time, why not? So, without further ado, here’s my list of things to do: Write a blog post about making lists Phone the boys at their father in the morning (where they’ve gone for three nights), to see how their night went, as Basti, in particular, has not been well. Put two big plants out on the pavement in the morning and hang the three signs on the wall (hoping to sell a plant or two, or get somebody to notice that we … Read entire article »
20 short story titles to get you thinking and writing
Struggling for something to write about for your blog posts? What’s wrong with a little fiction for a change, instead of just an article full of facts? Of course you can base the story on facts, if that helps you write the blog post, but the main aim is to just get something up on your blog, that’s interesting or fun for others to read and enjoy. Make a list of possible titles, and then take it from there. Ask your family to help with making lists of titles – it can give the kids something to do in the holidays, and even make grandparents feel and be creative. Here’s my own list … Read entire article »
Guilty of NOT clicking Google Adsense ads
Maybe it’s because Tony and I are web designers, who also do some basic organic Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for our clients, and we therefore know the efforts that go into producing some good organic search engine results, or also understand the time and effort it takes to leave decent comments on blogs and forums, to get backlinks. More often than not, when searching for information on eg Google, and clicking one of the ten organic results on page one, we find sites with good, relevant information. More often than not, when clicking the ads right at the top, or off to the right, (we at least personally) find the sites to not have us … Read entire article »
Why these 10 movies are on my list of top 10 favourite movies
Well, perhaps I should say why these current movies are on my list of top 10 favourite, as I do tend to change my mind from time to time (I’m female!) and do also enjoy many different kinds of movies. Also, I tend to forget which movies are my favourite or that I really enjoyed, until I see them mentioned somewhere else – then I go “Ah, of course, how could I not put that movie in my list of top ten!” So, here’s my current list of favourites (in no particular order), and why they’re my favourite: Fried Green Tomatoes (At the Whistle Stop Cafe) Friendship, friends being there for each other, uplifting each other, and … Read entire article »
How Google Adsense can help my kids with their future
My boys are 11 and 12 now, and there’s not much money, in general, and especially not enough to take better care of the boys and provide for them as much as I would like to. In fact, right now, Tony and I are seriously broke. February this year (2010) was the best month we’ve had since we started our little business in Feb 2008, and we got pretty excited, then work just started to, like, not come in as quickly before. We have not yet fully paid my parents (where we live) for rent this month, and are also then obviously nowhere near paying back the boys for having used some of their … Read entire article »
Bells and Whistles on a website
One particular issue we have, on an almost daily basis, is a clients’ irrepressible urge to incorporate bling into their website. Maybe it’s because they never had toys as children, but it never fails to amaze us to what lengths these people will go to create the fugliest site to ever grace any computer monitor. Our brochure website design service revolves primarily around custom design, and incorporating the clients’ wishes within the framework we create. We obviously do advise our clients on what should be where, and what needs to be said, and where exactly it needs to be placed. Most of the time our clients will take our advice. Our track record for Search Engine findability, coupled … Read entire article »
My mom’s old recipes in an old handwritten cookbook
Don’t know why I didn’t think of it before. I’m very lucky to have access to my mother’s old cookbook, handwritten and full of old recipes, most of them original, and passed down from her mother, and her mother’s mother before that. It’s a very messy cookbook, and falling apart a bit. It’s also not always easy to decipher what my mother has written, and a lot of the recipes are written in Afrikaans as my mother is Afrikaans. Well, I do understand Afrikaans, so it shouldn’t be too bad translating what my mom wrote, as long as the letters of the words are clearly formed etc! Luckily Tony and I am … Read entire article »
The hopes of youth?
I wrote this poem 25 years ago when I was 16: The hopes of youth??? He gazed at them, with pity in his eyes And hoped they would not always fill their parents’ hearts with lies. Their mouths and nostrils expanded as the marijuana filled their brains; the hopes of youth consist of many pains. If nobody does us to the dark, evil corners lure, We CAN hope for a bight, happy future. But We often feel squashed, like people in an over crowded hut. Listen; harken. Our hopes may darken. Where will we be, if there’s a world war three? His hopes were crowded by the pressure of life. Should he use that knife? No! His hopes for the future were bright, not cold and cruel like the night. The sound of the … Read entire article »

The riddle of how it seemed to rain on just our verandah
It’s really odd. We can’t figure out how the verandah got wet, as well as how the steps leading off it got wet, and part of the paving in front of the garage and carport. Really odd. It has not rained anywhere else – not in the rest of the garden, not in the street, not in the neighbours’ gardens, nowhere else. So, was it rain, or something else? Nobody washed the verandah. Nothing seems to be wet in the neighbours gardens (maybe their hosepipe went a little astray – that’s if they were using a hosepipe, as due to the water restrictions in the Amathole District (including East London), using a hosepipe … Read entire article »
The car park scene in Fried Green Tomatoes
Aw, one of my alltime favourite movies is Fried Green Tomatoes. Jessica Tandy, Kathy Bates and Mary Stuart Masterson are wonderful, no, scrap that, superb actresses in this movie. And the car park scene? Towanda! Kathy Bates’ character has been having a hard time, menopause and stuff, and meets Jessica Tandy who’s an absolute delight, and who convinces Kathy Bates to take a bit of a stand for herself, and not let people walk all over her. She’s waiting for a parking in the grocery store parking lot, and as the driver of the space she’s waiting for pulls out, a zippy little car comes out of the blue and pulls into the space. Two … Read entire article »
What music I showed the boys on You Tube on Thursday night
On the way back from karate on Thursday night, the boys were asking me what my favourite song was – and I guess I don’t really have a favourite song. I don’t really listen to much music these days, but used to have loads of favourite songs, for whatever reasons, when I was younger – when I was about 17, 18, 19 in the late 80’s in South Africa, and, during the years after that, I did have a few more favourites too. After the boys did some learning for school exams, I trundled around on You Tube, with the boys watching, and showed them some of the songs I used to enjoy. Many … Read entire article »
