Free online typing speed tests seem like fun games to me, and not really tests, but if online typing speed tests help improve my typing speed, then I don’t care if they are thought of as tests or games, as long as they are free, and help me improve my typing skills!
Why do people want to type faster?
Well, if you’re just messing around typing letters to your friends, I don’t think it really matters what speed you type, or if you’re using only two fingers, but if you are earning money from typing or using your pc for writing online articles, then speeding up will mean you can get more work done, and make more money!
Children typing up their school projects will also get those projects completed sooner than they used to (than when they were typing more slowly) – freeing up some time to spend more quality time on the layout or decorating of their school projects – and, ok, ok, enabling the children to get done sooner, and to go relax, watch tv, read, or play some computer games (or go for a run or to the gym!).

Yes, typing speed, and accuracy are extremely important nowadays. Kids are being totally swamped with homework, and if they can improve their typing speed, albeit by ‘playing’, then it does need to be encouraged.
Myself? From 2 fingers I have progressed to 6. Speed? bad. Accuracy? fair. And my work suffers as a consequence.
I have seen this particular document to be really useful. Thanks a ton for publishing it.
Here are a bunch more free typing tests where you can learn your typing speed and accuracy
