Free online educational game that teaches how plants grow and reproduce

Came across this really educational online game where one can learn how plants grow and reproduce. It’s a free online game, and fun to play.

This educational game shows how a plant grows better if its leaves can easily reach sunlight, if its roots grow well and absorb lots of nutrients from the soil, especially if those roots can reach down to dead bugs in the soil, from which the roots can get some extra nutrients.

One clicks on little crosses (like a small plus sign) on the plant to grow roots, stems, leaves and flowers. One also makes seeds drop to the gound. This is with the wild plant version which I played. I totally sucked at it, and in the end (about ten minutes later) my poor little plant had only a 12% chance of beating extinction!

One has to try and grow your plant up and away from the shade of other plants, and have some flowers for bees to pollinate. If your plant has not done enough correct growing by September, it has a great chance of becoming extinct. Some insects come flying along too, that eat your leaves, minimising how much sunlight the leaves can absorb.

It is very important that we have many plants on earth, as they produce oxygen, and many provide us with food. It is also important that humans save water.

According to the terms and conditions on the Darwin Today website, people should not link directly (from their blogs or websites etc) to any page on the site other than the Darwin Today home page, so this is what I’ve done. When you land on the home page, you’ll find the game on the right (The plant evolution game). Go play it – it’s a free online educational game that’s fun. The rest of the site is pretty interesting too.

LOL! I had a look at the game, but it doesn’t have any triggers or accellarators! But it is a great teaching tool nonetheless.
