Free educational games for little ones at Smart Tutor
Some of the free educational games are for not so little ones, including parents! I just tried out a free game or two, online at Smart Tutor, and they’re great fun, and cute too!
At Smart Tutor, in the Game Zone that has free educational teaching games to play right there online, I tried out:
Space Rocks,
where I explored factors (and discovered that I’d forgotten what factors were!) but after a few rounds I picked it up again, and feel that Space Rocks is a very educational game that kids can play often, to help exercise the brain, help them with maths, and not end up like me forgetting what factors are!
Catch a Fish,
is the next free game I tried. I chose the “easy” game play option after having been surprised by the Space Rocks game (finding out what factors were all over again, so many years out of school already – I’m 41 now), but was caught again when I didn’t put my speakers on for the Catch a Fish game.
Do remember to put your speakers on for free online educational games! Besides being able to listen to really cute sounds and music (that little ones should particularly enjoy – although I did too), one also has to listen to some instructions if one wants to play properly.
Catch a Fish basically involves using your pc mouse and clicking on fish as they swim by – or rather clicking on only fish that have a certain word on them. Once one lot of fish have gone by, a new word to click on is announced and off you go again, clicking merrily away on the fish that swim by with that particular word on. For computer beginners it can help getting used to using a mouse, and can help with teaching one to listen carefully to what people say.
Sleeboz Stampede,
can help with learning multiplications of 2 (or help to recognize what even numbers are) by clicking on little bug monster things floating around on the screen that have even numbers on them (and avoiding clicking on the little bug monster things that have odd numbers on them.)
Coconut Float,
involveds the moving of your pc mouse or pc arrow buttons to move a turtle back and forth across a river. You aim to position the turtle under a coconut a monkey throws from one side of the river, and then you must try move across the river staying under the bouncing coconut, so that the coconut bounces off the turtle, safely onto the other river bank. Also a game to help a beginner get used to using a mouse or arrow keys, I think, and also helps with being alert, and concentrating on getting the turtle perfectly under that coconut! (hand eye coordination?)
Anyway, there are ten free online educational games that can be used for teaching little ones a variety of different skills, and they are fun. Nice sounds accompany the games too. So, get on over to Smart Tutor and try some out. You’re probably sure to do better than I did (I’m just old and boring, and don’t play enough games.
