It was a beautiful day at the East London Aquarium - the oldest aquarium in South Africa, and home to about 400 species of marine life. But Percy Penguin was thinking about the number 399...
Hm, I can see that we are pretty common, but decreasing in numbers. I know it will be dangerous, and risky, but I must go and visit my cousins in The Big Blue, and take my new wife to meet them. I'd better hurry. I'd swear the other marine species here can sometimes read my mind, and they may try and stop me!
Fish, did you hear? Did you hear? Percy Penguin's going to try and escape!
You must be a kid! I mean, you must be kidding! Wait until I tell the others...............
Do I hear a fish calling me? Hm, I'd better get back in the water and see who it is. Who's calling me? Who's calling me?
It's me, Seal, I have the most awful news: Percy Penguin is going to try to escape!
I can almost feel the others talking about me already. I must hurry! I know I'm not as big as a seal, but I will be careful and I will be safe...........
'm a penguin! I'm a penguin! Okay, I'm not, but can I come too?
Come, Penny Penguin, hop onto my back, and we'll jump into the water. I will keep you safe. I can't wait to introduce you to all my family!
Some penguins watched quietly as Penny and Percy Penguin swam away, wishing them luck, while others turned their backs in horror, thinking that Penny and Percy Penguin were going to die!
Lobster was very upset he was stuck in a fishtank, alone with a rock, and unable to say goodbye to the penguins.
Can I drop this ball now? I want to say goodbye to the penguins!
Come, Penny, stay close, and I will protect you.
And so it was that the penguins left the East London Aquarium, and swam out into the ocean, with friendly seagulls above promising to fly above them and watch over them, as they swam off to an exciting new life.
